Legion of Honor #BFBC2 Fraggednation Summer Ladder Awards

Attention to Orders

Battlefield Legion, CCCLX Cohors Fraggednation Summer Ladder Awards

Sept 23, 2011

Battle is the most magnificent competition in which a human being can indulge. It brings out all that is best; it removes all that is base. All men are afraid in battle. The coward is the one who lets his fear overcome his sense of duty. Duty is the essence of manhood.

-Gen. George S. Patton

=*=*=*=*=*=

For their conspicuous efforts and honorable gallantry on the field of battle, we salute Romulus [PG] of the Battlefield Legion for their participation in their 2nd place finish in the Fraggednation 2011 Summer Ladder and Quarter Finals placement in the Fraggednation Tournament of Champions. For their efforts and success, we recognize them.

I hereby award one (1) instance of the Centurion Medal

The Centurion’s Medal is awarded to members who demonstrate all of the principles and ideals of the Legion of Honor. These members have taken it upon themselves to consistently ensure that others have an enjoyable Legion experience.

Despite success and intention, even Praetorian Guard units see turnover in the Legionnaire Ranks. Romulus is no exception to this. However, these core members represent the elite, battered few who were members at the birth of this unit and were still fighting in its ranks until the close of the final tournament two hundred and five days later. Their dedication and skill is the hallmark of an exemplary Legionnaire.

Given under these hands in the Legion of Honor on this 23rd day of September, Two Thousand and Eleven.

I hereby award one (1) instance of the Thracian Cross

This award is given to members who have shown bravery or leadership while on the battlefield. The behavior demonstrated must be of a consequential nature in raising Legion morale.

During the course of action through two ladder seasons and one invitational tournament, jamez has illustrated time and again the traits of leadership exhibited by the finest of leaders. He is an example of not only how to play, but why we play. Put simply, Battlefield would not have a Praetorian Guard unit without jamez’ dogged persistence and unwavering faith in his comrades.

Given under these hands in the Legion of Honor on this 23rd day of September, Two Thousand and Eleven.

A Battlefield 3 Private Community Event with EA and DICE!

VADER GETS SOME BATTLEFIELD 3!

My journey began with a DM via twitter communicating with Seeson Mahathavorn,  the EA Battlefield Community Manager.  I don’t hold myself a writer nor a member of the press so to receive a super secret special invite to Seattle for a unique experience of playing both multiplayer and Co-Op in Battlefield 3 damn near blew my mind.  I only know myself to be a veteran of the Battlefield series whose specialty is only that of loving the series and engaging each Battlefield game tactically with fellow clanmates.  EA and DICE were to host a private Battlefield Community Event at the Westin Hotel in Seattle, included in our invite was the  flight, hotel room, and a 3-day PAX pass.  Once I received all the details it was so hard not to shout to the world “VADER IS GOING TO  SEATTLE TO PLAY SOME BATTLEFIELD 3!”

That Friday started off amazing, my roommate for the duration of PAX would be Stephanie Gutowski of RipTen, we were to meet up with Seeson Mahathavorn to pick up our passes then head over to start off Day 1 of PAX, along the way we met Mark and Allen of Off Duty Gamers,  and several others of  the Battlefield and Press Community.  Stephanie and I began our morning hunting for coffee and food, we then separated so that she could move towards the press section and I moved towards to lines of fans awaiting entrance.

At 7PM that evening we were to meet on the 4th floor of the Hotel in one of the halls to begin the event.  The evening began with food  (buffet style) and great conversation, Ian Torney the Battlefield 3 community manager at EA games, along with Ross from SFX-360.com, aceattorney,  Stephanie, myself and several others chatted about the community as a whole, the importance of Battlefield to squad gameplay and the overall enjoyment we all hold for the series.

Just before gametime we were presented with our official swag for the event, everyone gasped and cheered as each item was presented individually:  one Razor Imperator laser gaming mouse, GUNNAR Optiks digital performance eyewear, an Astro Gaming backpack, a cobra stitch paracord bracelet handmade by Mark from Off Duty Gamers, and an official Battlefield 3 lanyard.

Drinking, eating and playing #BF3, this is the absolute BEST gaming community ever! #PAX

GAMETIME!

We paired up in twos to begin our Co-Op missions in Battlefield 3 on the PS3, our objectives were to clear the building of the enemy in order to extract and escort the hostage to the awaiting humvees.  Once the hostage was in place you were both to take point during the progression though the streets.  Stephanie and I geared up in our Battlefield 3 Astro Gaming headsets prepared to begin our hunt.

The graphics and lighting were amazing on the PS3; those stating that the console versions will not live up to the hype are sadly mistaken, I was very impressed.  It truly felt as if you were in darkened buildings hunting the enemy, stealth or running and gunning are both an option during the first part of the map but oh what fun it is to stab your enemy without him realizing you are there.  Stephanie and I traded point while  pushing  forward clearing rooms and opening doors, moving fluidly and without incident.  The hit detection was impressive as well as the  infrared scopes, cleaning out a dark building is done with ease and  precision.  Once the hostage was secured we were ready to escort the transport through the streets.  The map had opened up to long dark streets where enemies were posted high on roofs and balconies with RPGs, others posted down low behind rubble and disabled vehicles.

Stephanie and I separated to take the left and right opposite sides of the street, with enemy fire raining down rapidly and explosions from all sides it became apparent making callouts and marking tangos was essential.  We found out the hard way that our tactic of separating wasn’t going to work, we needed to be closer to each other with our focus on high/low targets while keeping our callouts clean and marking  targets.  When downed by the enemy a mission to cross a wide open street for a revive of your teammate is not a smart option.  We then reloaded and switched up to moving up the right flank with my focus on high targets and Stephanie’s on the low targets, once we got our rhythm going we were a solid wall no tango was taking down.  The sounds of gunfire and explosions rocked you in the astro headsets, it was beautiful.  We both were so absorbed in the gameplay that we had to be tapped on the shoulder so that they could transition our stations from PS3 to PC.

PC TIME!

We took a small break while DICE rearranged our stations, next up was  Battlefield 3 Rush on Operation Metro.  The 32-player game mode was going to be brutal but we were all ready and willing.  The lighting and textures were crisp, allowing for an elegant view of the battlefield.  Each team had one turn at attack and defend of the crates before we made the jump to Team Deathmatch.  This by far was the most fun of the evening, player #6 was my nemesis all night long.  Gunfire came from everywhere, down low in the streets, from second story windows to the halls of the station.  The attention to detail  on the maps, characterization and customization are worthy of a  Battlefield title and the Frostbite 2 engine is simply gorgeous, I have to say that TDM and Co-Op will be my most anticipated modes in the upcoming release.

The event atmosphere was one of fun and gun, there were people chatting while others were making it a point to hunt others down in-game.  One note for future advice:  one must always keep their eyes on Daniel - he likes to “help” you with your mouse and keyboard.

DICE has definitively expanded on what TDM & Co-Op should be:  tactical squad and objective based gameplay that sets it apart from other shooters.   The objective base, map layouts, graphics, sound & tactical ability of Battlefield 3 is unique & exceptional.  No words I can say can expressly cover how impressive the scale of this game is going to be, October 25th cannot come soon enough.

Prepare for yourself and your squadmates for war.

Here’s a picture of my swag at its new home!

I played #BF3 Co-Op Mode on PS3, BF3 Rush and Team Deathmatch on PC. IT WAS GLORIOUS and soooo much fun! Co-Op is awesome, you guys are really going to enjoy this game once it’s here.  #DICE has raised the bar.

Thank you so much DICE and EA for the opportunity to share your time with the Battlefield community.

V.

Support through Paracord - Off Duty Gamers

  by:  Rigger82 of ODG

Parachute Cord

Paracord, Type III Nylon cord and 550 Cord are just a few terms for  this very useful material. Those who have spent some time around the  military likely have used this material for any number of uses and its  about as handy to have around as a nice big roll of duct tape (100 mph  tape for my mil friends).

Learn more about paracord here

Keeping it around

One thing that you’ll notice after learning how great this stuff is  to have around is that its not the easiest stuff to travel with unless  you live life in pants with cargo pockets or carry a backpack everywhere  you go. One way that the military found to keep a little bit available  for emergency purposes is to wear it! With a little weaving and some  creativity bracelets, knife lanyards, key fobs etc were created.  Sometimes known as ‘Survival Bracelets’ a paracord bracelet properly  created can yield a good useful 10 feet of usable cord that fits around  your wrist.

Supporting this site and get your own paracord item

Little did I realize as a former parachute rigger that these  bracelets would prove as interesting to non military as they are to  vets. In order to serve a need and let you support this site and its  work with the military and gaming community the following items are  available for sale.

Costs, Shipping/Handling

Prices below include shipping to US/APO addresses, all other orders  outside the US will be calculated and confirmed after your order is  placed when we respond via email.

  • Cobra Stitch – $15
  • Tri-weave – $18 (a couple more feet of paracord and a little more time involved with this weave)

Products and Types

All bracelets come with a black plastic side release buckle for a secure but easy to remove closure mechanism

go HERE to order yours!

@OffDutyGamers

BTW, the ‘Tri-weave’ as Im calling it is the paracord bracelet you see on the @Battlefield 3 cover at troops wrist. http://j.mp/iz7pmo

The cobra stitch is awesome, I wear it every day showing it off to anyone who will listen to me.  I was a lucky recipient of this gift from EA/DICE and Off Duty Gamers during a private Battlefield Community Event during PAX 2011.  It is a wonderful work of military art that deserves recognition, I proudly wear mine and have even purchased another one to use as swag for the Legion of Honor community site.
Off Duty Gamers is currently going through an upgrade to their site, but with patience you can support through paracord too.
